EVENING PLENARIES
16 OCTOBER 2019

Knowledge Building and Learning Synthesis-1

Moderator:
Moses Mulumba, CEHURD, Uganda.
Synthesis: Ana Lorena Ruano, International Health & Equity Journal, Norway

Panelists:
  • Sai Jyothirmai Racherla, ARROW, Malaysia
  • Clara Benilda Batzin, CEGSS, Guatemala
  • Borjan Pavlovski, ESE, Macedonia

The first day had shown the practitioners that there is a common struggle. All around the world, they face maternal mortality rates that are too high, health system financing that is too low; they see risky health behaviours in the communities, and how little information and tools are available for communities to empower themselves through knowledge and practice. Throughout the day we heard about a lack of reliable health-related data, how not all knowledge is equally valid, and most starkly, how citizenship is used not as a shield to protect people from abuses and safeguard their health, but as a weapon to exclude them from territory and services.
