THEME 2: - DAY 3 - 18 October 2019 - SESSION: STRATEGISING FOR THE SHORT AND MID TERM
This session was planned to discuss the international and national frameworks aimed specifically for indigenous populations (UN convention, World Bank safeguards, national laws) and current global initiatives and goals (SDGs UHC) and how they can be used strategically to advance indigenous populations’ demands. This session will also present specific strategies such as appropriate litigation and legal empowerment and continue the modality of short and participatory interventions. The session had planned to have participation of the UN Special Rapporteur for Indigenous Populations and other actors who are acquainted and directly involved with the World Bank safeguards, SDGs and UHC (such as the Bank Information Centre, Accountability Research Centre etcetera). After the presentations, participants work in small groups to reflect about the following questions:
How can my organisation use the international and national legal framework and the global initiatives to advance our own practice and struggles?
What kinds of support do my organisation and I need to develop concrete strategies for the short and mid-term?
Am I interested in continuing this reflection and being part of an action group for indigenous populations and accountability at local, regional and global level
